  1. New Prints

So here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

I’ve been making a series of large screenprints based on a narrative involving a migrant cat. Inspired by current events, these prints are part of a series that I’m working for my thesis exhibition. I have yet to title some of these.

    Castigo

    26” x 40”

Castigo Con Sus Amigos Encima Del Tren

    26” x 40”

    Castigo’s Travels

    26” x 40”

    Mucho Gato Amor

    26” x 40”

    “Untitled”

    26” x 40”

    El Coyote

    40” x 26”

Cuando El Rio Suena Gatos Lleva

    26” x 40”

    Castigo’s Revenge

    21” x 28”

    This is my newest print.

    “Untitled”

    26” x 40”

If you have any questions concerning edition sizes or if you’d like to purchase one of my prints send me a message or email me: mcmvectors@gmail.com

In the summer there was an opportunity to show some of these at 210 Studios, a student-run gallery in downtown San Marcos. This was very early in the series. That’s me hiding my favorite print.

I recieved some good feedback from this crowd. It gave me a sense of direction for future prints.

This is me chalking it up at Artpace’s Chalk it Up. I continued with my current series involving the cat narrative.

2 of my prints were chosen to show at the Third Coast National show at K Space Contemporary thanks to juror Trenton Doyle Hancock.

This piece won me best in show at the “Family” exhibit at the Southwest School of Art. Apparently it earned the most votes by guests.

That’s all I have for now. I probably left out some good things, so if I remember those I’ll make a new post. I’ve been slaving away in the studio, but I’m making it a goal to update the blog more often.

  2. In the Studio

    This was an old post:

Since my brothers passing, this is my home. I distract myself with work.

Check out some prints made during this period:

  3. 2010: An Odyssey

Let me fill you in on what this year represents to me. This is the most significant and most important year of my life. Everything has been happening so fast and relentless that I haven’t taken time to stop and reflect on how it is affecting me. To be honest, I’ve been avoiding facing the reality of some of the events that have happened.

The following posts are of events that have happened over the last 4 months.

    Unfinished…

  4. Arnold (In Memory Of)

This is a long overdue post.

With the passing away of my older brother on Feb 7, the family just isn’t the same. The first born son to my parents, and the person that I looked up to all my life. I followed in his footsteps with him by my side. He supported me when I needed it most. And always proudly introduced me to all of his friends as “his brother”. Never being ashamed to kiss me on the cheek in front of them, as a sign of kinship between us.

It’s been hard to move on without him. But he is still with me, always. I thought about getting a tattoo in memory of him. And that might help me a little for now, but I’ve come to understand that the real healing for me, is within. Besides, that’s never been the way our family commemorates things.

I remember asking my mother when I was a child, “if one of us were to die, would you get a tattoo for one of us?” She told me not to say things like that.

Recently I’ve been exploring work that is in memory of Arnold. That is my way of commemorating him. I plan to continue making work in his spirit, as my way of keeping him around. I never understood why people said silly things like, “he lives through us,” when somebody passes away. Well Arnold does live through me. And he continues to live as a strength in all those that he loved, and that loved him.

His Dying wish was to have his ashes spread on the 50 Yard line of the Cincinnati Bengals football stadium, his favorite football team. He would say this to us almost every time we ended a conversation or at the end of a visit to his house… “50 Yard Line!” followed by a “Go-Bengals dot com”. He was so insistent with this request. He was serious about this. He didn’t care how we did it but we had to do it for him.

    God Bless You Arnold.

-to the 50 Yard line you go.

  5. OKAY MOUNTAIN: Big Strange Mystery

During the Winter break I helped do installation for Okay Mountain’s new show at TX State. Okay Mountain is a collective out of Austin that was just given a major award recently in Miami as being the up and coming cool kids in the Art World. It was a great experience working with them. Here are some pictures of the opening:

The Okay Mountain guys wrote a story about a monster and sent it elementary school kids in Austin. These kids then drew ideas of what the monster in the story looked like. What they did was take scraps of the ideas from the drawings and created the monster out of scrap parts.

    Complete with monster documentary footage

Exibition open from January 19 – February 26

Please come see it for yourself, You will enjoy it!

  6. Alejandro Cesarco + David Zamora Casas at Artpace

Hello All, I visited Artpace recently to see what I missed on the opening of the new exhibitions. Let’s start with the Window Works installation by San Antonio-native, David Zamora Casas

    Picante

Picante is the name of this installation, it is a memorial to the late Artpace founder Linda Pace, who was a friend of his. Most of it is a tongue-in-cheek joke based on Linda Pace’s sauce business. I found it to be pretty clever myself, but I also wanted to eat most of the installation so what do I know.

    Index

In the Hudson Show Room, Alejandro Cesarco fills the space with his Index series. It is based on the idea of categorizing and creating an index for books that he will probably never get to write. They include a lot of different subjects and it makes you think of what these books would actually look like, were they ever to be written. This is really one you have to experience on your own. I cannot do this installation justice in pictures. You really have to go through and explore for yourself all the obscure relationships between subjects. It’s a really great experience.

Also a film is being shown where a narrator is telling a story to a small group. He explains how one can interpret meanings to things in hidden places.

I encourage everyone to try and see these installations at Artpace. They will be showing until the beginning of May 2010.

  7. O-Ten

Ok. so where have I been you ask? Well first of all, that’s a good question. And B, 2010 has indeed been a busy year for me so far. I have been doing gallery installation, watching countless films, falling ill, taking spills on my bike, working on my film, animating, (and dating?) Well, that last one probably isn’t true (or is it?). Anyway here’s what my year looks like thus far:

    (The Real) First Friday 1-1-2010

WTF Aren’t you showing, First Friday was closed. Almost every gallery was shut down. WTF!?

    Even the WTF show!? WTF?

This guy was the only one showing.

And he sure did have luck with the buyers that night.

Probably for being the only one open.

    Second Saturday January 2010:

    Miscellaneous:

  8. A 2009 Retrospective

Looking back, I accept all that has happened in 2009. I have said my share of goodbye’s and hello’s to key events and people in my life. Here’s a glimpse at what my year looked like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mcmvectors/sets/72157623109433472/show/

  9. WTF I’m hanging

Here’s a picture of what I’ll be hanging in the “WTF RU SHOWING?” group show at the February Collective gallery.

The artists are allowed a square foot of space on the wall to hang anything they want… anything… So this is my entry in the show. Come see it at the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center this thursday and friday night. It’s upstairs on the top of where Stone Metal Press is located.

  10. Some of my recent drawings

  11. My short animated clip based on one of my illustrations.

  12. My introduction to Animation + Other Projects

I’ve been illustrating on my other blog for some time now (http://mcmvectors.blogspot.com), and it’s about time one of my posts gets animated. I will be working more in creating animated sequences from my original illustrations and will have more to show in the coming weeks. I also have another film currently in the works. I plan on keeping you guys informed throughout the production. Thanks for checking in and visit often!

  13. Keel’s Open Studio Party

There was an open studio party where Mr. Keel was exhibiting new works consisting of paintings and drawings at his house.

There was a jazz band playing, San Antonio’s own Royal Punisher…

I like the new work, it reminds me alot of James Castle’s drawings.

  14. The touch of love mean that you are my girl

SMART Art Project Space was hosting a music extravaganza with such musical acts as:

James Sidlo, Sanford Allen, James Woodard, Mario Trejo, Viridiana Rivas, & The Transsexuals

Most of the music was atmospheric and ambient with amp feedback and static beauty.

Artist Kristy Perez’s installation was on display…

This guy was really funky, he filled the space with loud noise…

Check out his guitar… I stumbled upon it while searching for the toilet.

CD’s with Art were on sale…

As I left the night grew foggier…

and it was then that I realized I had to get some sleep.

The Music was great, the crowd was well behaved through the long ambient soundscapes created by the bands. Overall well done.
